“Across Breath, Voice, Silence” is music concerned with elemental process. Specifically it is an improvised solo saxophone performance recorded live at the Zen Center of New York City. I had been drawn to zen practice having felt parallels between its rituals and improvisation. While different in appearance they are both a process of opening in which something is revealed. The saxophone is incantatory by nature, it speaks no words but there is an elaborative quality to be found when dealing with the elemental qualities of breath, voice and silence.
